Selection and application of front LED and optical fiber in industrial borescope

As an important tool in modern industrial inspection, the unique lighting system of industrial borescope is crucial to their functionality.Among the numerous lighting methods, front LED and optical fiber lights are two common options, each with its own unique advantages and applicable scenarios.

Front led involves directly installing LED or other lighting devices at the tip of the industrial borescope probe, in close proximity to the camera. This design allows the light source to directly illuminate the inspection area, providing powerful illumination and high brightness, suitable for scenarios requiring high-intensity lighting. Furthermore, because the front led light is installed directly at the tip of the probe, it effectively reduces light scattering and attenuation, thus ensuring image clarity and contrast. This lighting method performs exceptionally well when inspecting confined spaces, complex structures, and deep holes, helping inspectors accurately identify and assess the condition of the inspection target.

However, front led lighting also has some limitations. Due to the limitations of the probe diameter, the power and brightness of the front led light may be somewhat restricted. In some cases, even with high-power LED lights, the lighting may not be sufficient to meet inspection requirements. Additionally, the mounting position of the front-mounted light may prevent it from effectively illuminating the inspection area at certain angles, potentially creating shadows or blind spots.

Unlike front led lights, rear-mounted lights position the light source in the main body of the industrial endoscope, transmitting light energy to the probe tip via optical fibers or fiber optic bundles. This design allows the probe to maintain a smaller diameter, improving flexibility and adaptability. The advantage of rear-mounted lights is that different types of light sources can be selected according to actual needs, such as high-brightness, long-life LED lights or laser light sources. Since the light source is located in the main body, maintenance and replacement are convenient.

However, rear-mounted lights also have some disadvantages. Because light energy needs to be transmitted through optical fibers or fiber optic bundles, there will be some light energy loss and attenuation, thus affecting the illumination effect. Bending and twisting of the optical fibers or fiber optic bundles can also lead to uneven light distribution, creating shadows or blind spots.

When choosing the lighting method for an industrial borescope, a comprehensive consideration of specific application requirements and environmental conditions is necessary. For inspection tasks requiring high brightness and high clarity, a front-mounted light may be a better choice; while for tasks requiring high flexibility and adaptability, a rear-mounted light offers more advantages. Factors such as light source lifespan, maintenance costs, and operating environment should also be considered to ensure that the chosen lighting method meets practical needs and is cost-effective.

Both front-mounted and rear-mounted lights for industrial borescope have their own advantages, disadvantages, and applicable ranges. In practical applications, a balance and selection should be made based on the specific situation to fully utilize their advantages and meet inspection requirements. With the continuous advancement of technology and the development of industrial endoscope technology, it is believed that more efficient and convenient lighting methods will emerge in the future, bringing more convenience and possibilities to the field of industrial inspection.
